Overview
Because Islamia is one of the very few Paediatric Ophthalmology departments in Bangladesh, the waiting room is frequently overcrowded, with lines of parents and their children. At the present time, there are three full-time consultants, headed by Dr. Mastura Khatun, and one long-term fellow from Islamia. Last year they saw over 45,170 children, and performed 4,517 surgeries. The most frequently performed surgeries were paediatric cataract (1,160 surgeries), and 200 squint surgeries.
