Chief Executive Officer, Mridul Sarkar, has been responsible for scaling up and expanding the services of Ispahani Islamia Ophthalmic Institute & Hospitals in Bangladesh. This hospital, along with its three Branch Hospitals, treats up to a million patients a year which includes 65,000 surgical procedures.
In the last three years, the hospital has opened nine Vision Centers in some of the most remote and inaccessible areas of Bangladesh. Three more will be opened in the financial year 2018-2019.
Staff numbers have increased from 750 to 1100 including 125 full-time doctors and surgeons. The hospital is moving towards a paperless system of management and will also be endeavoring to achieve international quality accreditation by the end of 2019. Islamia has earned international recognition for its achievement in clinical excellence, patient safety and fundamental research in eye-related conditions and diseases.

Mridul Sarkar in his tenure over the last three years has displayed significant entrepreneurial acumen in the organic growth of the hospital. He has been responsible through his dynamic leadership for international branding, conflict management and sustainability in a ‘not for profit’ organization. He has also displayed an acute understanding of fundamental science, engineering, and clinical and corporate management.
