Anesthesiology Department

Though most cataract surgeries can be performed under local or topical anesthesia, most retina, oculoplasty, and pediatric ophthalmology surgeries require general anesthesia. Because of this need, general anesthetics are administered on a daily basis. The Anesthesia Department has five consultants, and oversees the pre-operative evaluation of general anesthesia cases. Also we update our staff about the up-to-date methods of treating patients who develop cardiac difficulties before, during or after surgery.

Anesthesiology Services

  • clinical anesthesia
  • pain management of post-operative surgical patients
  • management of complication of local anesthesia when needed
  • monitoring of ‘high risk’ surgical patients under local anesthesia
  • anesthesia for ‘ROP’ babies during surgery and laser therapy
  • monitoring of ROP patients during screening
  • training of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) courses for RMO & Staff
  • training the staff in the management of emergency patients
